When asked what percentage of communication is conveyed verbally vs. nonverbally, many agree that only 7% of communication is verbal. Ever wonder where that number comes from? In the 1960s, Dr. Albert Mehrabian conducted studies that revealed 7% of a message is conveyed through words, 38% through vocal elements, and 55% through body language. Although more recent studies may reach different outcomes based on methodology, it is generally agreed that nonverbal communication plays an important role in effective communication.
