Lessons Learned During My Summer at Deloitte Consulting

Work Hard / Play Hard

My project had some long days and stressful moments, but Deloitte knows how to “wine and dine” us interns! We entertained a client at the Astros game, toured a local Houston brewery, and had multiple opportunities to explore local spots in Houston for Happy Hours. They even rented out the entire Globe Life Ranger’s stadium as we watched the Ranger’s batting practice.

Dang, Deloitte – I have to go back to broke, grad student life after this…it’s not going to be easy!

My Coworkers are Amazing!

Consulting is all about networking and through my small taste of that this summer, I have come to understand that Deloitte hires the most incredible people! My coworkers are interesting and funny, and they come from such diverse backgrounds and experiences. Their journeys to Deloitte are varied and fascinating and they each have very different future goals for their careers and their families. However, perhaps the best thing about my coworkers this summer is that they are so smart and creative! They produce great work for their clients and somehow make it look effortless.

Consultant Life = Snack Life

I haven’t stopped eating all summer! All our hard work requires plenty of fuel – there is a snack table at the client site (Twizzlers are a fan favorite) plus unlimited M&Ms and trail mix at the Deloitte office along with piles and piles of “Consulting Fruit” (yeah, it’s labeled, lol). I definitely don’t go hungry at work and have learned that the “consulting 15 pounds” is a real possibility.
